[ACTIVE] City to Diversify Water Supply, Continued Water Conservation Efforts Encouraged

The facility is not diverting or treating water in response to the highly variable water quality in the Rio Grande from rainstorms washing sediment and ash from the Las Conchas fire into the Rio Grande. In addition, drought has reduced the availability of reservoir water, which is delivered to the City’s water users through the Canyon Road Water Treatment Plant. Thus, in order to meet water quality targets, the City of Santa Fe will begin blending water from the Northwest Well with Buckman well field groundwater today.

The City water utility appreciates the community’s ongoing water conservation efforts and encourages continued attention. Last year the BDD was taken off-line at roughly the same time of year (August) for roughly six weeks for the same reason, sediment and ash washing into the Rio Grande after the Las Conchas Fire. This notice is in compliance with the requirements of the State Engineer’s Office. Please remember we can work together to conserve water and reduce demand!
