Santa Fe, NM – August 14, 2012 – The Genoveva Chavez Community Center (GCCC) is proud to host the seventh annual Santa Fe Pow-Wow on Saturday, August 18 beginning at 5:00 p.m. This evening social Pow-Wow is for all Nations and cultures. The event includes dancers, drummers, singers, and artist booths. Adult admission is $5. Seniors, students with ID, and children and youth admission is $1.
Drum groups include Host Northern Drum, Sacred Path, Head Singer Duane Sacatero; and Host Southern Drum, Southern Mountain Intertribal, Head Singer Alfred Wall. Head dancers: Head Gourd Dancer Joe Shortman, Southern Cheyenne; Head Man Dancer Agee Shenandoah, Onodoga Cherokee; and Head Woman Dancer Dorothy White, Southern Cheyenne. The Emcee is Dominic Arquero, Cochiti Pueblo; and the Arena Director is Leonard Atcitty, Dineh Nation.
Gourd dancing begins at 5:00 p.m., Grand Entry is at 7:30 p.m., Intertribal dancing and specials will be until the event closes at 10:30 p.m.
The entire GCCC basketball gymnasium will close at twelve noon Saturday, August 18 for set up. The gym will reopen at 9 a.m. on Sunday, August 19. In order to accommodate the Grand Entry, the indoor track, weight room and the rest of the fitness area will close at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 18. The gym and fitness areas will reopen at 9 a.m. on Sunday, August 19.
The GCCC is a 177,000 square foot recreational facility which includes: a gymnasium, three swimming pools, an ice arena, weight room, indoor track and many other amenities. The Center is located at 3221 Rodeo Rd, Santa Fe NM.
