Why did I receive a bill from the Fire Department for medical treatment that I received?
You received a bill if you were transported or treated by the Emergency Medical Technicians of the Fire Department. The State of New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (PRC) determines any charges patients may receive for medical treatment by the Fire Department. If you have a question about your bill contact the PRC office at (505) 827-4533.

Why does a fire engine come to my home when I call for an ambulance?
A fire engine may come to your residence because they are the closest emergency response unit. All firefighters are trained Emergency Medical Technicians, therefore whether a engine or an ambulance arrives at your home you will receive the emergency care needed.

Why do I see fire trucks parked at the grocery store and local restaurants?
Firefighters are allowed to eat meals at the station or at a restaurant while they are on duty. They are also allowed to purchase items from grocery stores to prepare meals while they are on duty. Firefighters will always leave immediately if there is an emergency.

Why should I pull to the right and stop when I see any emergency vehicle?
It is the law, by pulling to the right and stopping you are providing a safe passage for any emergency vehicle.
