The Calle Serena neighborhood labored for many years to have a park for its children. The result is the Martin Luther King Jr. Park, named after Dr. King, a great civil rights leader who stood for non-violence as a way to bring civil rights to all oppressed people. The park was dedicated on August 28, 2007, the 44th anniversary of Dr. King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech given August 28, 1963 in Washington D.C.
