The City, through the Children and Youth Commission, improves the lives of Santa Fe children by providing funding and support for local non profit organizations and public school programs that work for kids.  The Commission celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2009-2010.

From the beginning the Commission has believed:
All Children and youth deserve a safe, healthy and nurturing environment in which to grow;
Families, schools and other groups can work together with respect for young people as valued community members;
City government can work effectively with others in the community to support and enrich the lives of young people.

There are between 30,000 and 40,000 participants in 50 programs at 70 sites.  Some children participate in several programs at once.  Approximately one million dollars is awarded annually in five funding categories.
