Parking Citations

 

What Do I Do If I Receive a Parking Citation?

You have 15 calendar days from the date of issuance to make a payment or submit an administrative review request. On the 16th day, you will be responsible for twice the initial amount of the citation.

Pay online: You can pay online with a Visa, Mastercard, or Discover card. Please have your citation and license plate number, and payment information ready. If you need to pay for a citation issued 13 or more days ago, please pay online to ensure receipt.

Pay by phone: Please have your citation, license plate number, and payment information ready. If your citation number contains just numbers, you can pay over the phone with a Visa, Mastercard, or Discover by calling 833-805-1616. If your citation number contains a letter or begins with PO, please call 505-955-6581 and select option 1.

Pay in person: Bring payment to the Parking Violations Bureau at Market Station, 500 Market Street, Suite 200, on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 8:30 am to 12:00 noon and 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm.

Mail payments to the City of Santa Fe Parking Violations Bureau, PO Box 909, Santa Fe, NM 87504-0909. Please print your citation number, license plate, and account number on your check or money order. Please do not send cash.

What Happens If I Don't Pay a Parking Citation?

If you don't pay your parking citation or otherwise respond to your parking citation within 15 calendar days from the date of issuance, you will be responsible for twice the amount of the original fine. If no action is taken within 30 days of the date of issuance, you will be responsible for additional penalties, and your account will be turned over to a collection agency.

Don't Get the Boot

Under the Uniform Traffic Code, if you have three or more unpaid parking citations, a boot will be placed on your car and won't be removed until all outstanding fines are paid (plus a boot fee of $50). Payment must be made in full at the Parking Violations Bureau. To make an appointment to make a payment, please email parkingpermits@santafenm.gov. If payment is not made in full within 24 hours of immobilization, the City or its designee will tow your vehicle. Additional towing, tow yard storage, and processing fees will apply.

Dispute a Parking Citation

You must Do the following within fifteen days from the date of issuance:

Request For Administrative Review:

The recipient of a parking citation may submit, in writing within fifteen days from the date of issuance of the parking citation, a request for an Administrative Review of the citation. You may submit your Citizen Request for Administrative Review online or by visiting the Parking Division Administrative Office. If you get an error message that your citation is unavailable, please complete our Administrative Review form in English or en Español.

Please note:

Any pictures, evidence of payment, etc., must be submitted at the time of appeal. You are responsible for attaching all necessary documents with the Administrative Review form to ensure a fair and thorough review is completed. Please send additional evidence via email to parkingappeals@santafenm.gov.

Parking Violations Bureau (PVB) staff will conduct an administrative review based on the evidence provided and decide on the citizen’s review request. Appellants will be notified of the decision within four to twelve weeks via letter to the address provided in their request.

Request For Administrative Hearing:

If all PVB-defined requirements are met, and a request for an administrative hearing has been received from the registered owner within fifteen days following the mailing date of the administrative review decision, then:

The citizen’s availability will be accommodated based on the Hearing Officer’s schedule and availability.

An amount equal to the original citation fine shall be submitted with the request for an Administrative Hearing. This payment will be held as a deposit until the Hearing Officer has made a decision.

If the decision of the Hearing Officer is in favor of the appellant, then the deposited amount will be returned to the vehicle’s registered owner. If the deposit was made in the form of a check, then the deposit will be returned to the account holder of the checking account.

If the Hearing Officer upholds the citation, then the deposited amount shall be applied to other unpaid parking citations directly linked to the registered owner in the order of the oldest citation being paid first until the deposited amount is fully consumed.

If a balance of the deposited amount remains after all outstanding citations have been paid, the remaining balance will be returned to the registered owner. If the deposit was made in the form of a check, then the deposit balance will be returned to the account holder of the checking account.
