Ribbon Cutting for New *Art In Public Places* Mural

10 May, 2022

SANTA FE, May 9, 2022 — Members of the public and media are invited to join the City of Santa Fe Arts and Culture Department and City Councilors Carol Romero-Wirth and Michael Garcia for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate new murals at the Salvador Perez Pool Complex on Thursday, May 12, at 3 p.m.

El Agua Es Vida/Water is Life is a series of murals inside the pool facility weaving together stories highlighting the local and global realities about water. The murals show the role water plays in our lives: ancestral connection, agricultural development, recreational use, and its presence in the natural world.

“Water is life. This mural is a reminder of what is the center of our existence, our relationship to one another and the flow of historical ties,” said lead artist Israel Haros Lopez of Alas de Agua.

This mural is a collaboration with Alas de Agua Art Collective and its affiliates. Artistic leaders John Paul Granillo, Jessica Ortiz and Israel Haros worked with Leeana Aragon, Nayeli Navarro, David Sloan, and Samantha Chavez to depict the diverse relationships with water in different sections of the mural.
