City Charter Review Commission Seeks Public Comments on Proposals to the City Charter

26 Apr, 2023

SANTA FE, April 26, 2023 – The City’s 2022-2023 Charter Review Commission invites the community to review and comment on proposals to the City Charter by submitting comments online, or attending the upcoming Charter Commission meeting on Thursday, April 27, at 5 p.m. at City Hall in the Council Chambers, 200 Lincoln Ave

The City’s Charter calls for the Commission to recommend changes to the Charter every ten years. This year, the Commission is considering recommendations to modify the City's form of government, make citizen petitions for new laws easier, create a veto power, require public land be used for growing food, and create a local human rights commission, among other proposals.

The Commission’s recommendations are due to the Governing Body by May 10, 2023. Proposals to the Charter may be placed on the November ballot and could facilitate changes to City of Santa Fe government and the rights and protections of community members.
