City of Santa Fe’s Plan for Storm Damaged Tree Branches

13 Nov, 2024

Last week’s major storm hit Santa Fe earlier in the season than usual causing widespread damage to trees. The City of Santa Fe developed a plan to support residents removing storm damaged tree branches from their properties. The City of Santa Fe is collaborating with the Santa Fe Solid Waste Management Agency to give residents two options.

The first option is for residents to take the broken branches to the Buckman Road Recycling and Transfer Station (BuRRT), utilizing the express lane free of charge through Saturday, November 23, 2024. Branches must be tied down and secured properly during transport. BuRRT’s hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and the facility is located at 2600 Buckman Road in Santa Fe.

The second option is signing up for a large item pick-up at a discount rate through the City of Santa Fe’s Environmental Services Division (ESD). The $50 fee will be discounted to $25 for all residents having storm damaged tree branches picked up. Residents can call ESD at 505-955-2200 or email esd@santafenm.gov to schedule a pickup appointment. The pickup is limited to clean green waste, only tree branches, and no trash. ESD will schedule a date with residents for a Friday or Saturday, through November 23rd. Residents must move clean green waste, branches and limbs, to the curb and place them at least 3 feet away from mailboxes, cars and other obstructions.

The City of Santa Fe will be committing overtime to this project to ensure all residents are supported. The plan may be extended beyond the current dates if residents are still in need of help removing storm damaged branches. The City of Santa Fe’s Parks Division is working to remove fallen branches from City property and City parks. The City thanks residents for their patience while we work to clean-up the City following the major storm.
