City Releases Draft of Consolidated Plan for HUD Affordable Housing Funding

10 Apr, 2023

SANTA FE, April 10, 2023 – The City of Santa Fe’s Office of Affordable Housing (OAH) invites community members to provide public comment on the 2023 draft of the City’s Consolidated Plan. The public comment period will run from Monday, April 10, through Wednesday, May 10, 2023. Public input and community feedback on the plan helps the OAH finalize the plan before submitting it to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The City of Santa Fe receives an annual Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from HUD to address housing and community development needs for Santa Fe’s residents with low and moderate incomes. The Consolidated Plan outlines the expenditure of CDBG funds and other housing funds for 5 years and is submitted to HUD for a 45-day review and approval prior to the start of the fiscal year.

Funding priorities in the Consolidated Plan reflect a 5-year assessment of housing and community development needs, an analysis of fair housing and economic development conditions, available resources to meet needs, and funding priorities. Projects proposed for funding include emergency home repair through Habitat for Humanity, public services for homeless community members via Santa Fe Public Schools’ Adelante Program, Interfaith Community Shelter, Youth Shelters and Family Services, facility upgrades at Sonrisa Family Supportive Living Program at St. Elizabeth Shelters, and the creation of a commercial kitchen space for a youth job training program with Youthworks.

The draft plan and executive summary are posted on the City’s website at santafenm.gov/hudrequiredreportingandplans. Written comments may be submitted to Cody Minnich at cjminnich@santafenm.gov. For more information about the Consolidated Plan or to receive a paper copy of the plan, call the Office of Affordable Housing at 505-955-6574.

Following the review period, a public hearing on the Five-Year Consolidated Plan will be held during the Governing Body meeting on May 10 at the City Hall Council Chambers. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m., and public comment will be held at or after 7:00 p.m. Public comment will be accepted at the meeting or can be submitted via the City’s PrimeGov portal after the agenda is posted and up to 24 hours before the meeting. The meeting will be streamed live via the City’s YouTube channel and is also available via radio station KSFR 101.1 and on Comcast Government Channel 28 and HD928.
