City Releases Requests for Applications for Housing Funds Office of Affordable Housing Annually Releases Funds to Support the Creation, Preservation, and Rehabilitation of Affordable Housing January 28, 2022 --The City of Santa Fe’s Office of Affordable Housing announces the release of funds to support affordable housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income Santa Fe residents. Two applications are available: Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds and Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF) funds. Every year, the City’s Community Development Commission (CDC), chaired by Councilwoman Renee Villarreal, reviews applications, hears applicant presentations and makes funding recommendations to the Governing Body. Funding is available to developers and sponsors of affordable housing, including partnerships, corporations, limited liability companies, joint ventures, public/private partnership and non-profit organizations. “This funding is truly transformative in that it fills gaps for which other sources of housing funds either aren’t available or aren’t flexible enough to use in an effective manner,” says Councilwoman Villarreal. “Every year, I am inspired by the important work our community partners are doing to meet the needs of Santa Feans and proud that the City of Santa Fe can support this work.” The global health pandemic has made housing needs even more acute. For that reason, the CDC has identified preventing housing instability and ending homelessness as a funding priority. The RFAs can be found on the City of Santa Fe website: santafenm.gov/bids_rfps. Additional information, including a fillable PDF of the applications can be found at: santafenm.gov/funding_opportunities. Submittals are due by 5 p.m. on February 21, 2022. Applicants may attend an optional training on February 1, 2022, with the City’s Office of Affordable Housing prior to application submittal. Contact Cody Minnich at cjminnich@santafenm.gov for meeting details. A recording of the training will be made available at: santafenm.gov/funding_opportunities. CDBG funds are entitled to the City by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on an annual basis. The estimated funding amount for FY 2022-23 is estimated to be $600,000, of which 80% is made available for housing and community development activities. All uses of funds must be compliant with HUD’s regulation (CDBG Laws and Regulations - HUD Exchange). AHTF funds are set aside from local sources of revenue, of which an estimated $3,000,000 is available for FY 2022-23. Eligible uses are restricted to the costs of acquisition, development, construction, renovation or conversion, financing, operation or owning affordable housing or infrastructure. All uses of funds must be in compliance with the NM Affordable Housing Act and the City’s code: (https://library.municode.com/nm/santa_fe/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=CHXXVIHO_26-3AFHOTRFU).
