Compromised Elm Tree to be Removed from Alto Park

22 Feb, 2023

The City of Santa Fe Parks and Open Space Division and consultants from a local arborist company have been monitoring the health of a large elm tree with internal splitting in its trunk located behind the Bicentennial Pool complex at Alto Park. The splitting has created a cavity opening into the tree’s root system, and the tree has been designated as a safety hazard and slated for removal on Thursday, February 23, weather permitting. To help maintain the health of the urban forest in Santa Fe, the Parks Division will plant three Red Oak trees in Alto Park near the location of the removed elm tree during the spring planting season.

Residents should maintain a safe distance from the workers and heavy equipment during the tree removal process.
