SANTA FE, November 28 – The Midtown Master Plan is scheduled for a hearing and vote during a special meeting of the Governing Body beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30. The Midtown Community Development Plan will also be introduced.
The comprehensive Midtown Redevelopment Plans include both the Master Plan and the Community Development Plan. They are the culmination of a four-year planning (from 2018 to 2022) effort led by City staff and an interdisciplinary consultant team. They were shaped through the involvement of various local communities, non-profit organizations, landowners, business owners, city staff, elected officials, and other non-government partners. The collective vision of the policies and actions that will be implemented according to the plans were unanimously supported by the Santa Fe Planning Commission with a recommendation that the Governing Body approve the Midtown Master Plan.
"These plans are the future focus blueprint for generations to come and are inspired by our public engagement process over the last several years, a process that will continue as the redevelopment plans and public programs are implemented," said Rich Brown, Community and Economic Development Department Director. "The plans reimagine how Midtown can be enhanced to provide greater connection, interaction, and engagement."
Next Steps:
- November 28: City Council Finance Committee meeting on Midtown Redevelopment Plans – return on investment and public policy and community benefits.

Background
The Midtown Redevelopment Plans are designed based on the principles of sustainable development and will serve as a blueprint for future long-range planning in Santa Fe for connected, walkable, compact places that preserve the qualities that make Santa Fe memorable and loveable. They will shape the Midtown District as a place where all residents are welcome to live, work, play, experience, and learn in a space that reflects and celebrates the City’s rich heritage.
The Master Plan lays out land uses and an infrastructure framework to enable development and future investment. It will guide the type of development the community wants and includes guidelines for infrastructure, connectivity and transportation, density and open space, and building design.
The companion, Community Development Plan, identifies community benefit expectations to be delivered as development occurs. It is a policy-driven document to address housing choice and affordability, jobs and training options, access to employment, community arts, and cultural heritage.
The Midtown Redevelopment Plans are designed to achieve:
- Over 1,000 homes, of which 30% will be affordable to low-and-moderate income households
- New career opportunities with expanded film, TV, and digital production facilities
- New enterprises in technology and design
- Revived facilities for the performing and visual arts
- A central plaza and public open spaces for cultural programming
- An education hub with a state-of-the-art central library and community center
