SANTA FE, NM - The City of Santa Fe’s Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency introduced the first development agreement for expanding the film and multi-media production studios at the city’s governing body’s meeting on Oct. 30.
The deal is a significant milestone that marks the start of an exciting journey to transform the Midtown site into an urban hub of creativity, entertainment, arts and culture, jobs, education, and housing, as envisioned by Santa Fe communities.
This agreement outlines the development, lease, sale, and community benefits terms with Aspect Studios, the development entity selected through the city’s Request for Proposals process. The agreement, now undergoing the city’s legislative process, paves the way for the first development phase at Midtown.
The plan will anchor the site’s southern end with a unique mixed-use “studio village” featuring cutting-edge film production facilities, vibrant commercial spaces, and a residential area. The project is designed to act as a catalyst for further investment and interest in the Midtown District.

Aspect Studios, led by developer Phil Gesue, brings experience in urban mixed-use projects that integrate creative, commercial, and residential components. With their strategic acquisition adjacent to the Midtown site, Aspect Studios is poised to create the largest film and multimedia complex in northern New Mexico, cementing Santa Fe’s reputation as a global hub for creative filmmakers.

This project builds upon the community-informed Midtown Master Plan and the Community Development Plan, which were unanimously approved by the city’s governing body in 2021 and 2022, respectively. The development reflects the city’s focus on economic growth, equity, environmental sustainability, and cultural enrichment.

The Public Comment hearing before the city’s governing body is on Nov. 13, and the final vote is on Dec 11.
