Community members are invited to experience Santa Fe’s dynamic art and history through an augmented reality (AR) walking tour event from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, starting at the Santa Fe Community Gallery.
Augmented reality is an interactive experience blending real landscapes with computer-generated content to share information in creative and innovative ways. The Ojos Differentes walking tour presents an AR experience created by five local artists highlighting the history and culture of Santa Fe as depicted in City Historian Valerie Rangel’s "No Me Olvides" StoryMaps series. The series tells the history of Santa Fe starting with geological formations, flora and fauna, and human development, as well as details related to highlighted locations in Santa Fe.
Join the tour on Saturday with Ms. Rangel, Lauren Cason and Sam Jones from the RefractAR team, and project artists for an augmented reality experience of the art of Cliff Fragua, Artemisio Romero y Carver, Virgil Ortiz, Paz (Mapitzmitl) and Crystal Xochitl Zamora, and Ehren Kee Natay.
Tour Locations and Art:
- Sculpture of Saint Francis at City Hall (off of Marcy Street); “MuggZ’s Plight,” artist Cliff Fragua
- Roadrunner Cowbelles’ Trail Plaque (northeast corner of Palace Avenue and Washington Avenue); “Watch How Godzilla Aunt Eats the Cowboys,” artist Artemisio Romero y Carver
- Sena Building passage way, window display; “Plight of The Recon Watchman,” artist Virgil Ortiz
- Barrio de Analco (San Miguel Chapel plaza); “Nawitlanpa Teotl,” artists Paz (Mapitzmitl) and Crystal Xochitl Zamora
- Santa Fe River, downtown East Alameda; “A River Through Time,” artist Ehren Kee Nata
Hot cider will be served at the Community Gallery at the conclusion of the tour.
Afterwards, community members are also invited to join City Historian Rangel at 1 p.m. at the La Farge Room at the Main Library for “A People’s History of Santa Fe.” Ms. Rangel will present about her ArcGIS StoryMaps series on which the AR tour was based, and go into more depth about the history of Santa Fe.
