The City is seeking applicants for the Independent Salary Commission to set the salary for the City’s next full-time mayor. The Commission’s sole purpose is to review and set the mayor's salary, pursuant to Article 6.02(D) of the Santa Fe Municipal Charter.
The Commission is appointed by the City’s Ethics and Campaign Review Board rather than by the Mayor or the Governing Body to avoid conflicts of interest.
Persons appointed must live in the city of Santa Fe and fill one of the following categories:
- a member of the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce;
- a representative of a neighborhood association;
- a representative of a community organization;
- a current or retired attorney or judge;
- a representative of the human resources industry or an employment consultant;
- a current or retired chief executive officer, and
- an appointed at-large member.
Nominees must be able to exercise sound and practical judgment as members of the commission. The Commission will meet several times in March and April to determine the next mayor’s salary by the end of April.
Interested applicants should apply by submitting a resume and letter of interest via the City’s PrimeGov Committee Portal. Applicants should identify the category or categories of appointment for which they are eligible from the list above. For example, an applicant may be both a representative of the human resources industry and a member of the Chamber of Commerce and may be appointed to fulfill the requirement for either category.
The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. Please contact Human Resources Director Bernadette Salazar (bjsalazar@santafenm.gov) with any questions.
