Seeking Volunteer Board Members for the Santa Fe Public Library Advisory Board (SFPLAB)

10 May, 2022
Application Deadline June 30, 2022
SANTA FE, May 10, 2022 - The Santa Fe Public Library is seeking volunteer board members to join the Santa Fe Public Library Advisory Board (SFPLAB). The board has an opening for one city of Santa Fe resident and one Santa Fe County resident.

The SFPLAB provides broad community oversite and direction for the Library’s strategic plan, mission, vision, and goals, as well as advises the Governing Body with recommendations – in consultation with the head librarian and staff – about library use policies, book selection, acceptance of gifts and bequests, and other matters.
The Advisory Board meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 5:45 p.m. The meetings will rotate between all three branches of the Library, starting at the Main Branch, then the La Farge Branch, then the Southside Branch. The next meeting will take place in-person at the Main Library (145 Washington Avenue, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87501) on Tuesday, May 17.

The SFPLAB consists of seven members: five city residents and two Santa Fe County residents outside the incorporated boundaries of the city. City and county resident members are both appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the majority of the City Council, with county resident members additionally considered on the advice of the County Commission. With the consent of the City Council, the Mayor can also designate an ex-officio member of the library board from the City Council. Board members serve without compensation in three-year staggered terms and serve no more than two consecutive full terms. Terms of ex-officio members from the City Council are two years. At the board’s first regular meeting in July of each even-numbered year, members elect a president, vice-president, and other officers necessary to carry out the functions of the library board.
