The City of Santa Fe welcomes all to join in celebrating our veterans on Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11, 2021, on the Santa Fe Plaza from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Free coffee and donuts will be offered.

The event features a car show by the Santa Fe Vintage Car Club. At 1:45 p.m. Mayor Alan Webber will present a Proclamation, followed by a presentation of colors by the Santa Fe High School ROTC. Then “The Destroyers” Navy Band will perform from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Mayor Alan Webber says: “On Veterans Day we take time to honor and celebrate the sacrifices and contributions of all who have served our country in the military and their families. This year, this special day coincides with Navy Week in Santa Fe, and we’re privileged to have a performance by the Navy Band as part of this recognition. Please join me on the Plaza as we salute our veterans.”

Dorothy Seaton, MAJ, US Army (retired), Chair, Santa Fe Veterans Advisory Board, provides historical context: “November 11th is Veterans Day in the United States. Prior to 1954 it was known as Armistice Day, as it is still known in Europe and the rest of the world. The Armistice to end World War I was signed by the Allies and Nazi Germany on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. More than 20 million people had lost their lives in the war, including my uncle Bennet Ulven, who died on November 7, 1918, in the Meuse Argonne Advance just days before the Armistice. He never lived to be a veteran. So on Veterans Day we honor all who have served in the United States Military and who came home to their families and communities. We renew our commitment to honor and care for our veterans every day in recognition of their service to our country.”

For their support of the event, the City 0f Santa Fe extends a special thanks to Knights of Columbus 10517, Real Burger, Veteran’s Advisory Board, the Southwest Navy Band, and Santa Fe Vintage Car Club.
