Environmental Services Division (ESD) Director Shirlene Sitton will co-present at a national webinar hosted by Amazon Web Services (AWS) on Thursday, August 11, at 12 p.m. MDT. The webinar, “Creating a resilient and sustainable future,” will highlight sustainable solutions that cities enact for solid waste and recycling operations and how cities use smart technology to transform service delivery, along with sharing best practices and solutions provided by AWS Marketplace.

Sitton will present on ESD’s partnership with Rubicon and how Rubicon’s cloud-based technology suite, RUBICONSmartCity™, has helped develop more efficient and sustainable operations for the City of Santa Fe’s trash and recycling collections. In addition to numerous improvements to day-to-day operational procedures, ESD has also worked with Rubicon to review and implement a route optimization project for residential trash and recycling collections to eliminate miles traveled and balance the number of homes collected each day. The optimization will switch residential collections to a four-day schedule* each week and allow for more efficient use of time, staff, and fuel.

Register for the webinar here. The ESD-Rubicon partnership, which is now in its fifth year, was also featured in a recent documentary video for AWS’s spotlight series “Climate Next: Technologies for Sustainability.”
