“Xólotl: Dios Perro” Sculpture Exhibition Opens at Southside Branch Library

17 Apr, 2023

The Santa Fe Public Library, in partnership with the Museum of International Folk Art and the Mexican Cultural Center in Denver, is pleased to welcome prominent Mexican contemporary artist, Óscar Becerra-Mora, for a reception and art talk to celebrate the temporary installation of Mr. Becerra-Mora's monumental touring alebrije sculpture, "Xólotl: Dios Perro," on Tuesday, April 18, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Southside Library Community Room. Refreshments will be served.

Óscar Becerra-Mora has worked in the medium of cartonería for over ten years to create vibrantly painted papier-mâché sculptures incorporating modeled cardboard. "Xólotl: Dios Perro" is a papier-mâché alebrije sculpture that has been touring throughout the United States since 2013, and is the first monumental alebrije that has ever been on display in the U.S. The 15-foot-high sculpture will be displayed at the Southside Branch Library from April 17, 2023, through December 4, 2023.
