SANTA FE - A resolution sponsored by Mayor Alan Webber to be introduced at next week’s Governing Body meeting would put on the November ballot a $25 million bond issue solely devoted to more than 54 road improvements in every part of Santa Fe.
A General Obligation bond would fund the projects. If approved by the voters, property taxes on a home assessed at $500,000 would increase by $25 per year over the 20-year life of the bond. The proposed projects, which include repaving Airport Road from Cerrillos to 599 and Cerrillos Road from Cielo Court to Airport Road, must be 85% complete within 3 years.
Mayor Webber said, “Our residents have told us they want our roads fixed, and we hear them loud and clear. This $25 million bond will fund more than 50 projects all over town, fixing our roads and improving our quality of life. The people have spoken, and we’re doing our best to respond to their call to action.”
In addition to major streets needing immediate improvements in all four city districts, the proposed bond issue includes a 10% “set aside” that would provide money for smaller, neighborhood projects that will be identified later. The criteria for selecting the 54 road projects included recommendations from City Councilors, requests from residents, the severity of the road conditions, the volume of traffic, and a fair distribution of funds across Santa Fe. If the Governing Body approves the resolution, the ballot measure will go to the voters in November.
