Bicentennial Pool Reopening for Summer Season on June 18

6 Jun, 2022

Pool Party Planned on July 2 to Celebrate Reopening

SANTA FE, June 6, 2022 – The City of Santa Fe’s Aquatics Section of the Recreation Division is pleased to announce the reopening of the newly renovated Bicentennial Pool on Saturday, June 18, as well as a new lineup of activities such as “Learn to Swim” programming for youth at the facility.

The reopening comes after the completion of $2.3 million renovation project that was approved by the Governing Body in fall 2021. It is the first major overhaul since the pool and facility were built over 40 years ago. The Public Works Department contracted with Davenport Construction Management for improvements that include a new lap pool built from the shell up with a plaster surface and inlaid interior tile, new decking and landscaping surrounding the pools, and a host of repairs and preventative maintenance on mechanical systems and other facility structures. Sustainability improvements have also been completed throughout the building and in the parking area, including new energy-saving lighting and water-saving fixtures, air leakage repairs and a new solar carport in front of the building.

“We are excited to kick off our summer season with the exciting renovations at Bicentennial Pool, our new lineup of activities like the 'Learn to Swim' programming, and an extension of other offerings to our community and beyond,” said Community Services and Library Director Maria Sanchez-Tucker. “Please plan to get your feet wet and join us at the pool this summer!”

New summer aquatics programming at Salvador Perez Recreation Center and Genoveva Chavez Community Center (GCCC) began May 31. The GCCC will offer more opportunities for youth and family recreation and lap swim schedules in the morning, afternoon and evening hours, while still offering ample time for therapy pool users and special rentals. Beginning June 20, the pool at Fort Marcy Recreation Complex will be closed for eight weeks to implement required renovations to the facility. The programming for the Salvador Perez pool will also be adjusted on June 20 to accommodate summer activities.

The summer season at Bicentennial is currently scheduled to run through Sunday, August 14. A fall schedule with an extension to the outdoor swimming season will be released at a later date.
