This page provides a running list of active and upcoming roadway improvement projects. Click each project below to view its overview, schedule, traffic impacts, and latest updates.

Construction schedules are subject to change based on weather, field conditions, utility coordination, and contractor availability. Traffic control measures may be in place throughout the duration of each project. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible and to allow extra travel time when traveling through work zones.

Active Road Projects

The Public Works Department has completed roadway construction on the State-funded Agua Fria & South Meadows Intersection Improvement Project, a long-anticipated effort addressing aging traffic signals and increased traffic demand at the intersection. All traffic lanes are now open and functioning as designed. Final sidewalk improvements are underway, and the project is nearing completion.

Scope of Work:
The project included installation of a new traffic signal, intersection enhancements, dedicated bike lanes, ADA-compliant sidewalks, and additional turning lanes. These improvements were designed to reduce congestion, enhance safety, and meet New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Level of Service (LOS) A standards.

Traffic Impacts:
All traffic lanes are open. Motorists may encounter limited traffic control near sidewalk work areas as the remaining sidewalk improvements are completed. Drivers are encouraged to use caution and follow posted traffic control through the work area.

Construction is beginning on the Airport Rd. Median Beautification Project.

Construction Status: Beginning Construction
Latest Update: Wednesday, April 29, 2026

Scope of Work:
The project will begin at the intersection of State Rd. 599 and continue east on Airport Rd. Improvements will include four medians, ending at Paseo del Sol West.

Construction Timeline:
Work is scheduled to begin April 29, 2026, and is expected to continue through June 2026.

Traffic Impacts:
One or more lanes may be closed daily during construction. Motorists should expect traffic delays. Lane closures are necessary for the safety of workers and the public.

Community Notice:
Drivers are encouraged to use caution, follow posted signage, and allow extra travel time when traveling through the area.

Project: Tierra Contenta Trail Extension Project
Contractor: GM Emulsion

Scope of Work:
The City of Santa Fe, in partnership with GM Emulsion, is constructing a new multi-use trail crossing at Buffalo Grass Rd. Work includes installation of trail crossing infrastructure, concrete improvements, and approach connections as part of the Tierra Contenta Trail Extension Project.

Traffic Impacts:
Flaggers will be in place on Buffalo Grass Rd throughout construction to safely guide traffic through the work zone. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians should expect minor delays and use extra caution when traveling through the area. Construction is expected to continue through July 17, 2026.
