Road Projects and Construction Updates

This page provides a running list of active and upcoming roadway improvement projects. Click each project below to view its overview, schedule, traffic impacts, and latest updates.

Construction schedules are subject to change based on weather, field conditions, utility coordination, and contractor availability. Traffic control measures may be in place throughout the duration of each project. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible and to allow extra travel time when traveling through work zones.

Active Road Projects

Roadway improvements are underway on portions of St. Francis Dr. and Cerrillos Rd.

The project is a collaboration between the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) District 5 and the City of Santa Fe Public Works Department's Complete Streets Division. Cutler Repaving, Inc. is the contractor for the project.

Construction Status: Construction Underway

Project Area:
St. Francis Dr. from Cordova Rd. to Alamo Dr., and Cerrillos Rd. from Cordova Rd. to Alarid St.

Construction Timeline:
Construction to begin mid-September 2026 and is anticipated to continue through mid-October 2026.

Work Hours:
All construction work will take place at night between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Traffic Impacts:
Traffic control measures will be in place throughout the project. Motorists are asked to follow all posted construction signs, traffic control devices, and designated detour routes to help ensure the safety of workers and the traveling public.

Construction is underway on the Cottonwood - Agua Fria Intersection Improvements Project.

The Public Works Department, in partnership with GM Emulsion, began construction of a new roundabout on August 24, 2026. This long-anticipated project will address aging infrastructure and increased traffic demand at the intersection.

Latest Update: Friday, August 28, 2026

Scope of Work:
The project includes construction of a new roundabout, dedicated bike lanes, and ADA-compliant sidewalks. These improvements are designed to reduce congestion, enhance safety, and meet New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Level of Service (LOS) A standards.

Construction Timeline:
Work began August 24, 2026, with project completion expected in May 2027.

Traffic Impacts:
Starting Tuesday, September 8, westbound Agua Fria will be closed at the South Meadows intersection. The detour route will be South Meadows - Airport Rd - San Felipe Rd. Local businesses and residences will have access. Please follow all posted construction signage.

Community Notice:
Radio and local newspaper advertisements began August 7, 2026, to inform the community about the upcoming construction.

Construction is beginning on the Airport Rd. Median Beautification Project.

Construction Status: Beginning Construction
Latest Update: Wednesday, April 29, 2026

Scope of Work:
The project will begin at the intersection of State Rd. 599 and continue east on Airport Rd. Improvements will include four medians, ending at Paseo del Sol West.

Construction Timeline:
Work is scheduled to begin April 29, 2026, and is expected to continue through June 2026.

Traffic Impacts:
One or more lanes may be closed daily during construction. Motorists should expect traffic delays. Lane closures are necessary for the safety of workers and the public.

Community Notice:
Drivers are encouraged to use caution, follow posted signage, and allow extra travel time when traveling through the area.
