This page provides a running list of active and upcoming roadway improvement projects. Click each project below to view its overview, schedule, traffic impacts, and latest updates.

Construction schedules are subject to change based on weather, field conditions, utility coordination, and contractor availability. Traffic control measures may be in place throughout the duration of each project. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible and to allow extra travel time when traveling through work zones.

Active Road Projects

Construction is beginning on the Airport Rd. Median Beautification Project.

Construction Status: Beginning Construction
Latest Update: Wednesday, April 29, 2026

Scope of Work:
The project will begin at the intersection of State Rd. 599 and continue east on Airport Rd. Improvements will include four medians, ending at Paseo del Sol West.

Construction Timeline:
Work is scheduled to begin April 29, 2026, and is expected to continue through June 2026.

Traffic Impacts:
One or more lanes may be closed daily during construction. Motorists should expect traffic delays. Lane closures are necessary for the safety of workers and the public.

Community Notice:
Drivers are encouraged to use caution, follow posted signage, and allow extra travel time when traveling through the area.

The Public Works Department continues work on the State-funded Agua Fria & South Meadows Intersection Improvement Project, a long-anticipated effort addressing aging traffic signals and increased traffic demand at the intersection.

Construction Status: Nearing Completion
Latest Update: Monday, March 30, 2026

Scope of Work:
The project includes installation of a new traffic signal, intersection enhancements, dedicated bike lanes, ADA-compliant sidewalks, and additional turning lanes. These improvements are designed to reduce congestion, enhance safety, and meet New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Level of Service (LOS) A standards.

Recent Progress:
Crews successfully installed three mast arms at the intersection over the past weekend. Upcoming work includes removal of two PNM power poles and transfer of fiber optic cable, followed by installation of a fourth mast arm.

Traffic Impacts:
The roadway will remain open during ongoing construction. Motorists can expect lane shifts and temporary flagging operations. Drivers are encouraged to use caution, follow posted signage, and allow extra travel time when traveling through the area.

Project Outlook:
The project is in its closing stages, and the new traffic signal system is expected to be operational soon. Once complete, the improvements will enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and increase accessibility for all users.

The Public Works Department’s Complete Streets Division is continuing roadway improvements to Jaguar Drive from Avenida El Nido to Paseo Del Sol West.

Construction Dates: March 23rd–May 22nd, 2026 (weather and field conditions permitting)
Project Total Cost: $1,466,122.90
Funding Source: 2025 Road Improvements GO Bond
Contractor: GME General Building LLC

Scope of Work:
Miscellaneous striping activities.

Planned Scope for Week of May 18:
The contractor is securing the striping schedule. The new proposed striping activities schedule is set to begin on Thursday, during the week of May 18, weather permitting.
Motorists should expect heavy slow-moving machinery and intermittent flagging at intersections.
Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes when possible.

Project Phases:
Task 1: Concrete structure improvements including curb ramps, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, valley gutters, and utility collars within the roadway limits.
Task 2: Asphalt road rehabilitation beginning with the turning lanes and mainline lanes to follow once the concrete phase is complete.
Task 3: Pavement striping on the new asphalt surface following completion of the asphalt phase.

Traffic Impacts:
Motorists should expect heavy slow-moving machinery and intermittent flagging at intersections. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes when possible and allow extra travel time when traveling through work zones.

Potential Delays:
Inclement weather, unexpected underground utility issues, or heavy machinery breakdowns may affect the construction schedule.

Lucia Ln will be closed at 4100 Lucia Ln (Santa Fe Recovery Center) and at the Lucia Ln recycling center.

The recycling center as well as the local business will remain open and can be accessed from Airport Rd.

Construction Dates: April 6-June 19, 2026
Project: Tierra Contenta Trail Extension Project
Contractor: GM Emulsion

Scope of Work:
The City of Santa Fe, along with GM Emulsion, will be constructing a new trail crossing at Lucia Ln. Work includes installation of cement footings, cement trail, and approach aprons.

Traffic Impacts:
Lucia Ln will be closed during construction at 4100 Lucia Ln and at the Lucia Ln recycling center. The recycling center and nearby business access will be maintained from Airport Rd.

Buffalo Grass Rd Trail Crossing:
Starting May 11, Buffalo Grass Rd will have flag men in place to allow construction of the trail crossing. Work is expected to last through June 12. Please use caution within the work zone.

Snyder Construction will be doing restriping and asphalt patching on 2800 South Meadows Rd at the apartments.

Traffic Impacts:
The road will be closed at the roundabout on the Alameda Frontage Rd. All traffic control and detours will be set up. Please expect delays.

Detour Route:
Traffic will be detoured through Caja Del Oro Grant Rd.

Public Notice:
A message board will be placed on the Alameda Frontage Rd to inform the public of the road closure.
