Active Road Projects
The Public Works Department continues work on the State-funded Agua Fria & South Meadows Intersection Improvement Project, a long-anticipated effort addressing aging traffic signals and increased traffic demand at the intersection.
Construction Status: Nearing Completion
Latest Update: Monday, March 30, 2026
Scope of Work:
The project includes installation of a new traffic signal, intersection enhancements, dedicated bike lanes, ADA-compliant sidewalks, and additional turning lanes. These improvements are designed to reduce congestion, enhance safety, and meet New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Level of Service (LOS) A standards.
Recent Progress:
Crews successfully installed three mast arms at the intersection over the past weekend. Upcoming work includes removal of two PNM power poles and transfer of fiber optic cable, followed by installation of a fourth mast arm.
Traffic Impacts:
The roadway will remain open during ongoing construction. Motorists can expect lane shifts and temporary flagging operations. Drivers are encouraged to use caution, follow posted signage, and allow extra travel time when traveling through the area.
Project Outlook:
The project is in its closing stages, and the new traffic signal system is expected to be operational soon. Once complete, the improvements will enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and increase accessibility for all users.
Community Notice:
The City appreciates the community’s continued patience as crews complete this important work.
