City of Santa Fe Activates Code Blue Monday and Tuesday

13 Jan, 2025

Based on the most recent National Weather Service forecast calling for overnight low temperatures at or below the 15-degree threshold, the City of Santa Fe Office of Emergency Management will be activating Code Blue tonight and tomorrow (1/13-1/14). We will monitor forecasted conditions throughout the week to make a call for any dates beyond Tuesday. This initiative is designed to save lives by providing essential resources and expanding overnight sheltering and daytime warming operations for individuals experiencing homelessness during severe weather periods. Emergency services are working closely with nonprofit partners and outreach teams to meet the needs of the community.

Santa Fe Fire Department and Alternative Response Unit staff are conducting proactive outreach, distributing cold weather gear, and coordinating transportation to shelters for willing individuals. Park Rangers are engaging with individuals during daytime hours, while Transit services are assisting with transportation for those requiring shelter access before 10 PM.

Emergency sheltering options include the Interfaith CommunityShelter (Pete’s Place), which has the capacity for new intakes. An additional temporary emergency shelter will be opened by the Interfaith Leadership Alliance. The Salvation Army will be providing a daytime warming facility, including meals and other services from 8-4 pm. Interfaith Community Shelter will also be providing day services.

Christus St. Vincent’s will be coordinating with shelter providers, the ARU, as well as City transit to coordinate sheltering of unhoused individuals who may be discharged.

Partner organizations, including the Salvation Army, the Life Link, Southwest Care Center, and the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness, are offering outreach and additional resource coordination for unhoused individuals throughout the Code Blue activation.

The City of Santa Fe reminds residents to avoid calling 911 to report individuals who are not in acute medical distress. If you suspect a medical emergency, please call 911 immediately.
