A small, lightning strike-caused fire is burning on the east Side of Atalaya mountain. The fire is approximately five acres in size and moving uphill at a low rate of spread. Conditions are favorable because relative humidity is high. Two engines from New Mexico State Forestry Division are fighting fire. A hot shot crew of 19 firefighters is also on scene throughout the night. The City has authorized the use of Nichols Reservoir to provide water to the helicopter crew to help in the extinguishment efforts. City of Santa Fe Fire Chief Brian Moya states, “We are happy to report that there is no current threat to the City of Santa Fe. The Santa Fe Fire Department is ready and standing by if necessary to assist.” City Manager John Blair, says, “While there is no need for alarm, this another reminder to take fire preparedness seriously.” We ask residents to remember the Ready, Set, Go wildfire program Ready-Set-Go and to sign up for Alert Santa Fe Sign Up - Smart911 for updates.
