Main Swimming Pool Area to Close From November 1 through December 10
The Chavez Center lap pool will be closed for renovation from Monday, November 1 through Friday December 10, 2021.
GCCC members may utilize the pools at Fort Marcy Complex and/or Salvador Perez Complex during this renovation. GCCC Aquatics staff will be partially relocated to Fort Marcy and Salvador Perez to accommodate lap swimming, recreation, adult/youth club teams, and NMAA High School athletics.
The Therapy Pool will remain open during this project and available for GCCC members with an extended schedule of Monday – Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily. Therapy Pool users will access this space via the separate entrance and parking area at the Northeast end of the building.
Renovations to the natatorium include: New, required plastering of the Leisure Pool, refurbishment of water features (frog slide), and sandblasting of the tile surrounding the Leisure Pool. The expansion gap on the floor of the Lap Pool will be repaired, and installation of energy efficient underwater LED lighting will be completed.
GCCC Natatorium Manager Matt Cottle says: "The Chavez Center is excited to begin the much-needed work to our venue and will be pleased to offer to our community members a wholesome, more attractive recreational area for families and our youth. The increased sustainability and longevity of our facility is of great importance to all. The conversion of new and improved underwater lighting will allow for optimal visibility and a 94% reduction to energy cost and consumption. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to seeing all our patrons in December."
Use of the alternate venues will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis on this schedule:
Salvador Perez Pool, 601 Alta Vista Street, will be open to the public Monday through Friday for Lap Swim from 7:00 – 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.,
and also for Recreational Swimming from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Fort Marcy Complex, 490 Bishops Lodge Road, will be open to the public Monday through Friday for Lap Swim from 6:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and also for Recreational Swimming from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.
