SANTA FE, November 4, 2022 – During the public comment portion of the November 3, 2022, City of Santa Fe Planning Commission meeting, derogatory statements were made by a member of the public toward residents of Mexican descent. The public meeting was broadcast live on the City’s YouTube channel.

In response, Mayor Alan Webber issued the following statement:

“Robust community engagement and input is fundamental to our system of government, but any form of hate speech is objectionable and not welcome in the City of Santa Fe,” said Mayor Webber. “We regret that inappropriate comments were made by a member of the public during a City meeting and we apologize for any harm caused by the statement.”

These derogatory comments were not made as part of the official record of public comment and will not be reflected in the minutes, nor the recording on YouTube.
