PROJECT ONGOING AS SCHEDULED
Location: Santa Fe Railyard Irrigation
Contractor: Accent Landscaping
Description: The renovation of the irrigation system at the Railyard Park includes a complete replacement of the system. This includes work to restore the function of the cistern system that collects precipitation from the building’s roofs for use in he landscape. The system will include all new piping, valves, and irrigation heads throughout the park. The design is specialized to supply supplemental water to natural precipitation and allow the existing vegetation to flourish. The new design approach and efficient head spacing are estimated to reduce water demands by 47%. The new system will be significantly easier to maintain by consolidating all of the irrigation into a single distribution network, reducing the number of heads while maintaining uniform water application, and replacing the operation system with a smart controller that is easily adjustable with changing climate conditions. The system will primarily use the water collected in the cisterns and only use a domestic water source when the harvested water is exhausted. The construction will be sequenced so that the park will remain partially open and allow operation of the existing system to avoid periods of no irrigation. Construction is anticipated to be completed in August 2025.
