City Poised to Provide SFCC Scholarship Money to Veterans and Their Families

Santa Fe Community College Foundation Plans to Match the Funding

On Wednesday, March 30, 2022, the City of Santa Fe Governing Body is expected to approve a request to provide $72,000 for scholarship money for area veterans, their spouses, children, and grandchildren. The proposal has already been approved by the Finance and Quality of Life Committees.

The proposed agreement would be between the City of Santa Fe Veterans Advisory Board and the Santa Fe Community College Foundation, which would match the grant and administer the funds by June 30, 2026.

Youth and Family Services Director Julie Sanchez says: “Veterans have given so much to protect and serve our country. In return, the City wants to ensure that they and their families have access to some of the best educational programming in our community and have the funding available to support their educational goals.”

Kelly Marquez, Director of Annual Giving, Santa Fe Fe Community College Foundation, says: “The awards can be as much as $2,000 for full-time students and $1,000 for part-time students, per semester. When combined with the veteran-to-veteran mentoring and other support provided by the Veterans Resource Center, these awards can be truly life-changing.”

Dorothy Seaton, the Veterans Advisory Board Chair, says: “The Veterans Advisory Board and the Santa Fe Community College have a strong and long-standing partnership that funds scholarships for veterans and their families. We believe that education and job enhancement training are vital to the quality of life for our community members who have served our country.”
