Last week, the City of Santa Fe Public Works Department closed a section of West Alameda from Calle Nopal to the Siler Roundabout due to a localized culvert failure near 2530 W. Alameda. The Public Works project team has been meeting with engineers to design and plan a replacement box culvert and necessary channel improvements, and outline an initial repair timeline. Due to the complexity of the repair, including the lead time for fabricated rebar, a critical construction component, the engineers currently estimate a 2–3 month repair timeline. Temporary culvert installation is inadvisable due to the heighten risk of washout across the channel, which is the largest drainage across Alameda Street. Public Works and the rest of the project team will continue to seek any opportunity to open the road faster while ensuring the safety of commuters and the surrounding area.
Additional Information:
Last week, two 60-inch concrete culverts under the roadway near 2530 West Alameda collapsed and caused structural failure of pavement above. Closures and detours are in place for all thru-traffic for safety. Local traffic access is allowed on either side of the hazard.
The road closures at Calle Nopal and the Siler Roundabout will remain in place until safe travel is possible. Please allow extra travel time if navigating around the detours and seek alternate routes whenever possible.
