Downtown Restroom Construction

Downtown Restroom

If you've been on Water Street recently, you've surely noticed that the Downtown restroom is taking shape now that the framing is completed. Project manager John Dillon says the plumbing and electrical wiring are well underway too, and the project is 65% finished. Weather permitting, the facility will be open this spring. There will also be a Tourism Santa Fe information booth on the site one block from the Plaza.

“For years the number one question that visitors have asked downtown is, ‘Where’s the bathroom?’ Now we will have an answer to that question," said Mayor Alan Webber on the occasion of the groundbreaking last July. "It’s in the right place, with the right design, at the right price. It will be safe and accessible for visitors and residents.”

Bicentennial Pool Renovation

Work is also well underway at the Bicentennial Pool. The rough grading is complete and during winter weather the contractor is focusing on the equipment room. Project manager John Dillon says the reconstruction is 50% done and on track for a Memorial Day target.

The pool was closed last summer on account of major leaks in the plumbing and pool shell. In October the Governing Body decided to move forward immediately on pool repairs, at a projected cost of $2.3 million.

Airport Expansion

Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez visited with Santa Fe Regional Airport Manager Mark Baca and Public Works Director Regina Wheeler last Friday to learn about airport expansion plans. She came bearing a grant of $1.6 million of new Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding, which Baca intends to devote to the next phase of planning.
