Volunteers Sought for Urban Heat Map Study June 30

6 Jun, 2024

The City of Santa Fe’s Environmental Services Division (ESD) has been awarded an Urban Heat Island Mapping Campaign grant through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The purpose of the award is to collect on-the-ground temperature data to provide accurate information on the heat experienced by the Santa Fe community in the summer.

To collect heat data, heat sensing equipment will be attached to car windows and volunteers will drive around Santa Fe, following pre-designed routes.

All volunteers will be required to attend an online training session to learn how to use the heat sensing equipment and collect the data.

On June 30, mapping shifts will be conducted at 6 am, 3 pm and 7 pm. Routes will take approximately one hour to drive. Volunteers may sign up for multiple shifts.
