Food Benefits and Support
The City of Santa Fe is deeply concerned about food insecurity and potential disruptions to SNAP. More than 20,000 Santa Fe County residents rely on SNAP for daily nutrition. We’re grateful the State and the Governor are stepping up at this critical moment to meet an immediate $30 million funding gap.
While cities are not funded or structured to replace federal programs like SNAP, we are actively supporting residents’ health and well-being. We are coordinating with Santa Fe County and community partners on contingency plans, with special attention to our most vulnerable neighbors.
Mayor's Message
Mayor Alan Webber commented: “The Federal government is literally taking food out of the mouths of our vulnerable residents, and that’s just plain wrong. As we rallied together as a community during COVID, we will again rally together to meet the needs of our fellow Santa Feans to make sure no one goes hungry. We can all make a difference.”
City Coordination
Through the Human Services Division, the City directly funds organizations such as Santa Fe Public Schools Adelante Program, The Food Depot, and Christ Lutheran Church. The CONNECT network also links residents to food, housing, and other support services through an integrated referral system.
Residents seeking food and nutrition support should call 211 or visit our CONNECT webpage.
Community members who wish to help can donate to the Connect network or directly to trusted providers.

The City of Santa Fe Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is assisting The Food Depot, the regional food bank for Northern New Mexico, to expand operations in response to increased community need following recent SNAP benefit reductions.
To ensure an orderly and sustainable increase in volunteer capacity, OEM is coordinating exclusively with organizations, businesses, churches, civic groups, and community partners that can provide volunteer teams of 3-5 people for full-day shifts. This coordinated approach reduces administrative burden on Food Depot staff and ensures volunteers are effectively integrated into operations.
Interested organizations should complete the volunteer registration form here: https://forms.gle/2nYMxr627TKGqH8R9
Please do not self-deploy to The Food Depot or show up unannounced—volunteer placements will be coordinated through OEM to support efficient scaling.
Individual volunteers should contact The Food Depot directly through their established volunteer channels, not through this organizational coordination effort.
Additional Ways to Support:
For those with the means, direct donations to The Food Depot support Santa Feans and Northern New Mexicans facing food insecurity year-round. https://give.thefooddepot.org/campaign/738657/donate
Community members may also consider supporting the CONNECT Network, which addresses unmet financial and social needs in our community year-round. https://give.uwncnm.org/give/434077/#!/donation/checkout
“Santa Fe always comes to the aid of this community when times are tough. The fact that federal government would deny food to our hungry people is unthinkable and unacceptable to this city. I know our residents will come through with donations of money and expressions of support for their neighbors in this time of need. Please give and give generously,”
— Mayor Alan Webber.
