Senior Center Temporary Closure

13 Nov, 2024

A gas leak forced the temporary closure of the City of Santa Fe’s Alto Street site on November 8th. The community site located at 1121 Alto Street is home to the Mary Esther Gonzales Senior Center and the Bicentennial Pool. The Senior Center will be closed for several weeks until the gas leak is fixed.

Seniors can pick up grab-and-go meals from 11:00-12:00 at the MEG Senior Center Monday through Friday. Meals will still be delivered to customers’ homes on schedule. Activities and meals served at the Senior Center will be interrupted until the gas leak is fixed. An updated activities calendar with new locations will be released in the coming days. Also, the Thanksgiving meal is being planned for another location next week.

Transportation appointments will take place as scheduled. Transportation services include rides to doctor’s appointments, the pharmacy, or the store. Rides are scheduled a minimum of three days in advance. Seniors needing to get in contact with Center staff during the closure can call 505-955-4721.

The City of Santa Fe Public Works Department, Facilities Division is working as quickly as possible to repair the gas leak. The City of Santa Fe Fire Department tested the air in the facilities with no detection of natural gas. Gas to the facilities is currently shut off. Updates on progress made in repairing the leak will be made available as this work progresses.
