Ranked Choice Voting

Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) allows voters to rank candidates in order of preference instead of choosing just one. If no candidate receives more than 50% of first-choice votes, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated, and votes are transferred to the next preference on those ballots. This process repeats until a candidate wins with a majority.

How to Vote Using Ranked Choice Voting

  1. Review the ballot carefully. You may rank candidates in order of preference.
  2. Choose your top candidate.
  3. Continue ranking. If you want, select additional choices in order.
  4. Avoid duplicate rankings. Do not give the same candidate multiple rankings.
  5. Submit your ballot. Your vote will count even if you choose only one candidate.
