Join us on January 25, 2025, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM in the Community Gallery for an engaging artist talk and interview with William C. Jenkins, a practicing therapist and one of the featured models in the Free Our Flowers series. Together with artist Robert Washington-Vaughns, we’ll explore the misconceptions surrounding therapy, particularly the pervasive idea that "therapy is only for crazy people" or that "art therapy is just for children."
This conversation will delve into the barriers many men face in accessing mental health resources, including the mistrust bred by negative experiences with the healthcare system. We'll discuss the importance of starting with casual, everyday conversations about emotions with trusted friends and loved ones as a gateway to deeper therapeutic work.
Through the lens of art and storytelling, we’ll examine how creative expression can be a bridge to healing and re-imagining therapy as accessible, inclusive, and transformative. This talk invites you to reconsider how we frame wellness, especially for those most underserved by traditional mental health systems.
