Welcome to the Parks & Open Space Division
From the heart of the historic Plaza to the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Santa Fe’s 2,500 acres of parks and trails offer something for everyone. With over 100 parks—including 77 developed parks, 26 undeveloped spaces, and 170 miles of scenic trails—our city is a haven for outdoor recreation, reflection, and community connection.
Whether you’re hiking a quiet trail, enjoying the Farmers Market at the vibrant Railyard, or spending time at your neighborhood park, Santa Fe’s open spaces offer peaceful retreats and serene getaways—honoring the city’s spirit, cultural richness, and breathtaking southwestern landscape.
Mission Statement
The City of Santa Fe Parks and Open Space Division is dedicated to providing safe, welcoming athletic fields and family-friendly amenities, while expanding outdoor public spaces that serve the city’s diverse recreational and sporting communities.
Community Involvement
Santa Fe’s parks and open spaces thrive thanks to the passion and commitment of our local community. Through programs like Adopt-A-Park or Trail, Adopt-A-Median, and TreeSmart Santa Fe, residents, local organizations, and businesses can actively contribute to the care, beautification, and sustainability of our shared spaces. Each program serves a unique purpose—whether it’s planting trees, maintaining trails, or enhancing medians—and offers a meaningful way to give back to the city we proudly call home.

The City of Santa Fe manages more than 2,500 acres of parks and open spaces, including 77 developed parks, 26 undeveloped parks, and over 170 miles of scenic trails—ranging from quiet neighborhood spots to iconic landmarks like the historic Plaza.
The City also maintains key outdoor venues such as the Municipal Recreation Sports Complex, an expansive area ideal for large sports gatherings, and the Municipal Golf Course, Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe, home to two courses—one of which was named one of the “Top Three Big Little Courses in the U.S.” by Travel + Leisure magazine.
Santa Fe offers over 170 miles of scenic trails, providing a variety of options for walking, hiking, biking, and enjoying the outdoors. Notable trails include the Dale Ball Trails, a nearly 25-mile network in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and the Santa Fe Rail Trail, a 15-mile path that extends from the Railyard District to the community of Eldorado. These trails connect neighborhoods, parks, and natural areas, offering residents and visitors ample opportunities to explore the city's diverse landscapes.
