Airport Road – Phase One Improvements
Week of March 16–20, 2026

The City of Santa Fe Public Works Department’s Complete Streets Division is continuing Phase One roadway improvements on Airport Road between Cerrillos Road and NM 599.

Planned Scope of Work – Week of March 16, 2026

• Construction at the South Meadows Rd and Airport Rd intersection will continue on the southbound lane. Traffic can expect lane shifts. Through traffic on both northbound and southbound lanes of South Meadows Rd will remain open.
• Construction continues at the Airport Rd and Zepol Rd intersection. Traffic can expect lane shifts. Both north and south access onto Zepol Rd will remain open.
• Construction at 4220 Airport Rd will require an outside lane closure. Traffic can expect lane shifts.
• Concrete work will take place on both the north and south sides of Airport Rd from Cerrillos Rd to Country Club Rd, completed segment by segment.
• Asphalt work continues on both the north and south sides of Airport Rd outside lanes from Cerrillos Rd to Country Club Rd.
• Each construction segment is expected to take approximately 3–6 days, depending on weather and field conditions.

Traffic Control – Week of March 16

Traffic control will be set up before any construction takes place, weather permitting.

1. Traffic can expect outside (rightmost) lane closures on both the north and south sides of Airport Rd from Cerrillos Rd to Country Club Rd.
2. Rightmost turning lane closure going north off Cerrillos Rd onto Airport Rd.
3. Rightmost turning lane closure going south off Cerrillos Rd onto Airport Rd.
4. Intermittent lane closures at intersections for paving operations.
5. Outside lane closure at 4220 Airport Rd. Traffic can expect lane shifts.
6. Through lane closure at the Rodeo Rd and Airport Rd intersection onto Airport Rd.
7. Traffic can expect lane shifts at the South Meadows Rd and Airport Rd intersection. Through traffic on both the northbound and southbound lanes of South Meadows Rd will remain open.
8. Traffic can expect lane shifts on Zepol Rd. Both north and south access onto Zepol Rd will remain open.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible and allow extra travel time when traveling through the area.

The City of Santa Fe Public Works Department’s Complete Streets Division is continuing Phase One roadway improvements on Airport Road between Cerrillos Road and NM 599.

Planned Scope of Work – Week of March 9, 2026

• Construction continues at the South Meadows Rd and Airport Rd intersection on all three southbound lanes. This will require a road closure on South Meadows Rd from Rufina Rd to Airport Rd, with traffic detoured to Jemez Rd. The closure is expected to be in place from Monday through Wednesday.
• Concrete structure improvements will commence 03/10 at the Airport Rd and Zepol Rd intersection. Traffic can expect lane shifts. Both north and south access onto Zepol Rd will remain open.
• Asphalt work continues on both the north and south sides of Airport Rd turning/deceleration lanes from Cerrillos Rd to Country Club Rd.
• Each segment is expected to take approximately 3–6 days, depending on weather and field conditions.

Description: Construction has been scheduled to begin on 3/4/26 through 3/10/26, weather and field conditions permitting. Traffic control shall be in place during the duration of the project. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes when possible and to allow extra time when traveling through the area.

Planned Scope of Work – Week of March 2, 2026

• Concrete work continues on the north side of Airport Rd, moving west toward Country Club Rd, segment by segment, with asphalt milling to follow as weather allows.
• The southbound turning lane from South Meadows Road onto Airport Road will be closed due to construction at the South Meadows Road and Airport Road intersection. Through traffic on South Meadows Road will remain open. Motorists who need to turn onto Airport Road southbound should use Jemez Road as a detour. The detour is expected to be in place from Monday through Wednesday.
• Traffic will be detoured through Jemez Road, and the detour is expected to last from Monday through Wednesday.
• Each segment is expected to take approximately 3–6 days, depending on weather and field conditions.

Additional Scope Item

An additional task has been added to the overall scope: traffic signal loop detection repairs following the pavement striping task.

Schedule Update

The initial start date has been moved back to February 23 due to inclement weather expectations.

Construction is anticipated to continue through the end of May 2026, weather and field conditions permitting.

Phase One focuses on the segment from Cerrillos Road to Fairly Road and includes:

• Removal and replacement of ADA-compliant curb ramps
• Associated concrete and sidewalk improvements
• Asphalt paving to follow concrete work, weather permitting

Work Sequence

• Concrete work will begin on the north side of Airport Road, starting at Cerrillos Road and moving west toward Country Club Road, segment by segment.
• Once the northern segments are complete, crews will shift to the south side of Airport Road and move east back toward Cerrillos Road.
• Each segment is expected to take approximately 3–6 days, depending on weather and field conditions.

As concrete work is completed in each segment, asphalt paving will follow as temperatures and weather allow.

4. Inside turn lane closure southbound off Cerrillos Road onto Airport Road

Upcoming Roadway Improvements on Airport Road

The City of Santa Fe Public Works Department’s Complete Streets Division will initiate Phase One roadway improvements on Airport Road between Cerrillos Road and NM 599.

The project will be completed in two phases. Phase One will focus on the segment from Cerrillos Road to Country Club Road and will include concrete and accessibility improvements followed by asphalt work, as weather conditions allow.

Initial Construction Activities

Phase One construction will begin with concrete work, including:

• Removal and replacement of ADA-compliant curb ramps
• Associated concrete and sidewalk improvements

Construction is scheduled to begin February 11, 2026, and is anticipated to continue through the end of May 2026, weather and field conditions permitting.

Where Work Will Begin and How It Will Progress

Initial concrete work will begin on the north side of Airport Road, starting at Cerrillos Road and moving westward in the following order as each section is completed:

• Cerrillos Road to Zepol Road
• Zepol Road to Jemez Road
• Jemez Road to South Meadows Road
• South Meadows Road to Paseo del Sol
• Paseo del Sol to Fairly Road (turnaround point)

Once work reaches Fairly Road, construction will change direction and move to the south side of Airport Road, progressing eastward in the following sequence:

• Fairly Road to Paseo del Sol
• Paseo del Sol to South Meadows Road
• South Meadows Road to Jemez Road
• Jemez Road to Zepol Road
• Zepol Road to Cerrillos Road

Initial work will continue along the north side of the roadway, moving west as each individual segment is completed, before transitioning to the south side.

Work Duration at Specific Locations

Construction activity is expected to take approximately 3–6 days per segment, depending on site conditions and weather. More precise timeframes will be provided once work begins and crews establish a production pace.

Asphalt Work

As concrete work is completed in each section, the City plans to transition directly to asphalt work, weather permitting. Asphalt paving will begin once temperatures meet required conditions and concrete work is complete.

Traffic Impacts and Updates

Traffic control measures will be in place throughout the project. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible and to allow extra travel time when traveling through the area. The City is committed to providing frequent updates as work progresses, including daily updates if necessary. Project staff will meet weekly to review schedules and ensure the most accurate and up-to-date information is shared with the public. Description: Sidewalk, curb, and gutter improvements. Work is scheduled to begin on 2/5/26 and is anticipated to take 3 weeks to complete. Traffic control measures will be in place. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes when possible.
